Pink Dye
This is a bit late.
The addition of pink dye last year for breast cancer awareness was nice but meaningless. I swear I am not trying to be a jerk but it had less meaning than those lame ribbon magnet people put on their cars. At least with the ribbons some of the money goes to a charity of some kind, I hope.
My suggestion: sell it. I would be will to pay as much as $5 for pink dye if I knew that +90% was going to cancer research.
If you happen to change to color for sale from month to month then all the better.

Virtually all "awareness campaign" symbols are somewhat useless, in order to associate a pink ribbon with Breast Cancer, you already have to be aware of the connection and therefore already aware of the cause.

Pink Day in LA was the player held event and they raised quite a bit of money through donations from Guild Wars players. Anet put in a pink dye trader to suit the occasion.

Why not simply make a donation directly to one of the charities that address breast cancer instead of going through A-Net? That's the whole point of Breast Cancer Awareness Month - to encourage people to get involved (donate $$$) in helping organizations like the American Cancer Society conduct research in hopes for finding a cure.
I don't see a need for a "middle-man" here.

What he said.
Plus,
I BET you, at LEAST ONE person who did not previously know it, learned that it was actually Breast Cancer Awareness Month through this.
One in a million (or should i say 2 million? :P) can make a difference. Well at least in American philosophies...

My post was not directed at GWfan#1 - It was addressed to the OP's suggestion.

If they were to consider this I would be far happier if they made the point that breast cancer isn't the only cancer out there.
Most of the television time, posters etc is aimed at breast cancer which is just one aspect of the disease.
did you know there are awareness ribbons in many colours for other cancers if your going to do one do it for all.
I know they couldn't use the other colours since they are already in the game just as long as the money goes to cancer research in general.

Here in sweden we had a campaign going for prostate cancer not too long ago, where the symbol for it was a black mustache.
Maybe thats an idea for anet, having an in-game event to raise money for and players get awarded with black mustaches for their characters

i think this is a good idea and people that want to buy pink dye and are willing to contribute to cancer research should be allowed to through the game. It makes Anet seem like more than just a bunch of money grubbers and allows activists to donate towards a cause they believe in. Plus, unaware people can become aware year round and if they want that pretty pink they can donate to a worthy cause.

Sounds like a fun idea to get a few more character alterations and raise money and awareness too.

Except that ArenaNet is not a fund-raising company, but a game company. If along the way to inventing the perfect MMO, they can help raise awareness via a small change, they spend the resources to do that. But they cannot permanently focus any of their limited resources on things outside the game.
Stop and think. There are many causes out there that deserve donations for research or just funds - cancer, United Way, Red Cross, muscular dystrophy, Alzheimer's, etc. Where would it stop? If you want to donate your time to fund raising, contact any of them and volunteer. Don't try to turn Guild Wars into a fund raising vehicle instead of entertainment.
